Today is a great day to start at the beginning.  You may wonder what I mean. 

I am going to tell you one of the most important points to remember when

you start an Internet Business.  This one thing will make you more money than you can imagine.  It is not a website or 2 websites.  It is not a website at all.  Now do not get me wrong.  Websites are important, but not the most important.

Is it your own product?  After all, everyone says to be a success on the Internet you have to have your own special product.  Again the answer is no.  There are many people making six figure incomes on the Internet without their own product.  I will tell what this one special thing is in just a minute.

I want you to know that an Internet business is not a get rich quick plan.  The Internet is still in its beginning stages and now is the best time to start your Internet business.  So if an Internet Guru or a group of Internet Gurus promise you the moon if you will only purchase their $200 package are flat out lying to you.  You will only find out basic information and not much more.

You have to work hard to be successful on the Internet.  The only place “success” comes before “work” is in the dictionary.  But let me tell you this.  You may work hard at your job every day, but how much closer does that job get you to retirement.  Working hard on an Internet business can make it possible to retire from that job in as little as one year.

What I am trying to say is that the rewards for working on an Internet business will out number those from any 9 to 5 kind of job.  Now that you know the real truth about Internet Businesses I can tell you the most important thing you can do to make your Internet business a success and bring in more money than you can imagine is building relationships. 

I have been very busy building business relationships.  These relationships are usually called Joint Ventures.  I am involved in two of the largest Joint Ventures of my Internet career thus far.  That is largely why this newsletter is late getting published.

Business relationships or Joint Ventures (JVs) will be necessary the rest of your Internet career.  Here is why your Internet business depends on JVs.

When you want to make money on the Internet and you do not have a list of your own maybe because you are just beginning or you are committing the #1 biggest mistake by not building a list, who are you going to sell to.  You have to partner up with another Internet businessperson that does have a list. 

Suppose you do have a list.  Do you still need JVs?  You will need JVs more than ever.  After you send your adds to your list, then what do you do.  You guessed it! A Joint Venture.  As your list grows, JVs will become easier to do.  On the Internet, the larger your list, the more power you will be able to command.

Instead of you struggling to get someone to do a JV with you, other people will be contacting you for JVs.  Now you know what gives you the power to make money on the Internet.  A customer list.  So one of the first things you will need to learn is to become a master list builder.  Now what I have told you here today is what are some of the most important things you will have to learn to do to be successful on the Internet.  I have not had the chance to tell how you can do these things.

Next week I will be giving you an outline to success.  To succeed you must have a plan.  But most important of all, you have to work your plan.  No one else is going to do it for you.  I plan to show you step by step what you have to do to make money on the Internet.

Joint Ventures and creating your own Opt-In customer list will save you THOUSANDS of dollars in advertising costs.  There is one more strategy that I want to mention that can be used to earn money on the Internet without the advertising costs.  That is your own affiliate program.

The 3 Big Lies You've Been Told About Making Enough Money To Live Your Dream

Tell me if this sounds familiar to you:

Step 1:  You decide you're sick of your job.

You're tired of waking up every morning to do something you don't enjoy.

You're tired of being mistreated.

You're tired of being a slave.

You're tired.

You realize it will take you years to get the money you need to live your dreams.

When I decided to go into business for myself my motivations were very much the same. Army pay, even as an officer, wasn't so great ...

Step 2: You decide "enough is enough".  You look for other options.

Maybe you can go into business for yourself?  There has to be a better way, right?

You start doing research and you're overwhelmed with the options.  You decide, though, that it's better to work for yourself than someone else, so you know that one way or another you will quit your "day job".

 

Big Lie #1: "Be your own boss and your life will be easier."

There is a truer saying that goes, "the toughest boss you'll ever have is yourself."

Working for yourself has a tremendous amount of uncertainty, and requires a tremendous amount of effort.

It can be rewarding, but it's all up to you at this point.  Most self-employed people I know work more hours - not less.  The one nice thing you can't deny, though, is that it does put you in control of your destiny (but only if you avoid the following pitfalls!).

Step 3: You make the big choice: start your own business or participate in a business opportunity (franchise, network marketing, affiliate, etc ...)

Like most people, you probably went the easy route first.  You started promoting a business opportunity, or maybe even several of them ...

You spent a heap of money on books and tools.  You worked late into the night.  You neglected your social life ("Hey, I'm pursuing my dream - my life can wait.")

And in the end for what?

After a few months you do the math ... If you had put the same hours into overtime at your job you would have made more money ...

And then someone tells you the "big secret": "the only way to make money is to sell your own product!"

 

Big Lie #2: "The only way to make real money is to sell your own product."

Well, you may gross more money ... but you probably won't make more money.

The cost of running a business, even when you are the only employee, can be quite high.

At our peak of 40 employees, Aesop.com (and all of our subsidiaries) cost $250,000 per month to operate!

Even when you're doing millions of dollars per year in business, you may not end up with much at the end of the day ...

Step 4: You go into business for yourself.

You're now totally in control.

The money goes straight to you and you're happy.  When you get those first few sales you're fired up!

At the end of the first couple months, though, you realize that your business is getting out of control.  There is too much to do and you're now sleeping even less than before.

Someone tells you: "Why do all the work yourself?  Hire some employees and let them do the work!"

 

Big Lie #3: "Just hire some employees and you can kick back while they do the work."

I can assure you that anyone who gives that advice doesn't have any employees of their own.  It's a great theory, but in reality it doesn't end up that way.

Looking back on it, there is not one day that I've had to work less because of the people in my employ.

No offense to them ... I've had some great employees - some of them were superb.  But ultimately (and ironically) my life was never easier as a result.

In fact, I don't think I've worked less than 12 hours a day (usually more like 16 hours) in the last several years ...  And that's almost every single day - including weekends.

Now, I did have my staff develop some pretty amazing systems to automate our business and that helped tremendously.  My problem was that we kept growing and building.  If anything, we should have used the automation to its fullest and kept things simple.

 

Step 5: Where the heck are you now?

Now you're working more hours, your life is more complex than ever before, you experience stress every moment you're awake and when you sleep you don't really rest - you toss and turn every night worrying about business "issues" (but we're so brainwashed into believing running a business is our key to happiness that we call them "issues" instead of "problems").

Does that sound like you?

Of course it does.  This is the story I hear from almost every business owner I know.  There are a few exceptions who have used a skillful combination of automation and outsourcing, but the vast majority have relived the above story to one degree or another.

I personally lost track of my own dream along the way ...  I started down my entrepreneurial path to get personal freedom, but I ended up losing freedom rather than gaining it.

"Freedom to do what," you ask? 

Well, I don't even have to tell you what my dream is ... You know what I mean because you have your own dream.  It's what got you walking down this path to begin with.

Maybe you wanted to buy a boat and live on the water ...

Maybe you wanted to go back to school ...

Maybe you wanted to be an artist ...

Maybe you just wanted to have more time to spend with your children ...

But it all went back to money, didn't it?  You didn't have enough money or time to pursue this dream, so you got into business - thinking that it would take your troubles away.

Instead you woke up one day and realized that you weren't living your dream at all.  In fact, your life had become much much harder.

Is There an Answer?

In Part II I'll tell you about how I'm addressing this problem in my own life.

I'll show you my theory and what I believe to be a great solution to this problem.

Let me tell you right now, though - if you're looking for an answer that won't take any time and effort on your part, you won't hear that from me.  Such a thing doesn't exist.

What I will show you, though, is a path that will allow you to set up income streams that will give you a certain amount of freedom.

It's a realistic plan that definitely works.

Part 2 - How the Happiest People I Know Earn Enough to Live Their Dreams

As you discovered in Part I, we basically all have the same dream: get enough money so we can have enough freedom to live our lives the way we want.

And we've all been fed the same line of BS about how to do it.

To recap - here is the hard truth:

1.  "Being your own boss" is not what it's cracked up to be.  Remember, you are the toughest boss you'll ever have.

2.  "Selling your own product" is not the only way to make real money.  In fact if you sell a product of your own, you may in fact gross more money in overall sales, but your overhead will be much higher (overhead = hard costs + stress).

Remember, it's not about "grossing" a large dollar figure - it's about earning enough to get the freedom you need to live your dream.  So easily we forget that ...

3.  Having employees does not make your life easier.  I love and respect every employee I now have or have ever had, but as my team grew larger so did my stress.  Ask anyone else with employees ... If they tell you that having employees has made their life easier, ask them if the number of hours they've had to work has changed.  If they are honest, they will most likely tell you that they are working more hours after hiring people. 

"So, what are you telling me, Mark?  To get a job?"

Well, yes and no ... (more on that in a minute)

I'm about to show you a path - a path that will allow you to achieve that dream as long as you're willing to accept that it will take a healthy dose of honesty, common sense, and hard work.

To understand the path, you have to understand the goal.  The goal is to achieve freedom and happiness, right?

To achieve that for yourself, why not model people who are truly free and happy?

Our Model: The Happiest People I Have Ever Met

The truth is, after being in business for nearly a decade, I've found the happiest people I've worked with were people successfully promoting products for other companies (via network marketing or affiliate programs).

Who am I talking about?

I'm talking about successful:

a.  Network Marketers

b.  Investors

These are the "free agents".  These are the guys who have mastered the art of promoting and selling products for network marketing companies  (or leveraging invested money) to the point that they have quit their day jobs.

They create their own schedules.

They don't have business overhead.

They work as much as they like.

(But an interesting note is: most work a lot because they know the more they work, the more they will make.  However, none seem to mind it at all.  They enjoy it.  Funny how working without stress on your own terms doesn't seem like work anymore.  They know they can quit at any time once they've made enough ...)

The problem is, it takes time to reach this "free-agent" status.

There are a number of things you have to do first (hint: the path starts here):

1.  Start from a position of stability (financial, physical, and mental).

If you quit your job today and think you're going to become a free-agent overnight you're wrong.

You need to be able to operate from a position of stability so that you can build yourself to free agent status without any sense of desperation.  If you're desperate, people will know and they won't want to do business with you.

You need to keep your physical, mental, and financial health.  If you have a job now, keep it.

if you're in a desperate situation right now, accept it and know that it will take time to get out of it.  Get yourself stabilized first before moving on.

Take care of your body and learn how to deal with stress.

Either way, move on to step 2, no matter what ...

2.  Stop the bleeding.

Get your spending habits under control.  If you can't afford your current lifestyle, downgrade a bit.  Swallow your pride.  Getting deeper in debt because you think your friends won't respect you unless you own a Lexus is not the path to financial freedom.

3.  Wait ...

I'm not going to show you Step 3 yet.  Don't worry, I'm not going to hit you up with some sales pitch.
